Pair a phone

Every phone has its own cryptographic key, generated on the phone and never shared. Pairing tells your server which household that key belongs to.

1. Power the phone and connect it to the internet (the emulator is already online).
2. Lift the handset. An unpaired phone reads a six-digit code aloud through the handset and, if it has a display, shows it too. The code is valid for 10 minutes.
3. In the companion app (as a guardian) choose + Pair a phone, enter the code and give the phone a name, for example “Maya’s phone”.
4. The phone restarts its connection and comes online in the app, with its battery level.

You’re added automatically as the phone’s first contact, on speed-dial key 1, and you can always ring through quiet hours.

Note

Giving a phone to another household? Pair it again there: pairing a phone’s key to a new household replaces its old registration. (Removing a phone from the app isn’t built yet.)
